Horrorshow, made up of vocalist Solo (Nick Bryant-Smith) and producer Adit (Adit Gauchan), have come a long way from a friendship formed in a school yard of Sydney’s inner west. They started making music together as teenagers and signed with Elefant Traks in 2008 at just 19. Since then, they’ve been at the forefront of a generation of artists who have taken Sydney, and indeed Australian, hip hop to new heights with albums The Grey Space (2008), Inside Story (2009), King Amongst Many (2013), Bardo State (2017) and New Normal (2019). Five albums, two ARIA nominations and a Gold record certification later though, their sound speaks to far more than just the minutiae of navigating the streets and sounds of Sydney. Horrorshow use their unique voice to explore the universal themes and emotional spectrums of love, grief, loss, excitement, nostalgia and hopes for the future. The evocativeness of Adit’s musicality and raw honesty of Solo’s storytelling has opened up the duo’s fan base beyond the traditional hip hop crowd, with swathes of people flocking to live shows and an inclusive range of ages and cultural backgrounds connecting with the music and the message of Horrorshow. Horrorshow have returned in 2022 with a more soulful organic sound, captured with the Good Problems EP (May 2022) and building into the sequel EP Bad Feelings (Oct 2022). It taps into a feel-good energy as the band returns to the stage and connects with fans after years of disruption.
