MC Shakie

Rodney “MC Shakie” Roussell is a Louisiana-based emcee, entertainer, creator, and businessman known as the Official Host of New Orleans Bounce Music. A commanding presence with a signature call-and-response style, he has hosted, promoted, and performed at bounce events throughout New Orleans, earning recognition as one of the culture’s most dynamic personalities. Using the rallying cry “MC Shakie Make Em All Go Crazy,” he released a successful series of local mixtapes and wrote, co-wrote, produced, and inspired multiple New Orleans bounce records. His work blends music, humor, storytelling, and the unmistakable energy of his hometown. After serving a federal sentence from 2008 to 2017, MC Shakie rebuilt his life and platform in public. His experiences led to his participation in a New York Times Op-Doc addressing sexual violence in prison, and he continues to advocate for the safety and dignity of incarcerated people. Beyond music, he is an Amazon-ranked LGBTQ short-fiction author and has performed in two stage productions, showcasing both his acting and improvisational talents. Today, MC Shakie reaches a devoted online audience through candid stories, bold commentary, comedy, and New Orleans culture. Animated, colorful, and unapologetically authentic, he remains focused on building a multimedia legacy rooted in resilience, community, and entertainment.
