PAGAN is a ritualistic music project that reclaims ancestral memory through sound, voice, and theatrical movement, blending traditions with electric and electronic soundscapes to create a sonic fusion both primal and futuristic. The name PAGAN, from the Latin paganus meaning “one of the countryside,” evokes a pre-industrial world where the sacred intertwined with earth and body. In an era numbed by mechanized rhythms and digital overstimulation, PAGAN invites listeners to reconnect with deeper layers embedded in the unconscious. At the core stands actress and vocalist Evelyn Assouad, whose dramatic presence merges Dionysian dance, ancient lamentation, and theatrical metamorphosis, while each performer embodies an archetype—shaman, warrior, sage, hunter—crafting a mythopoetic tableau. Their performances are ceremonies—multi-sensory rites where psychoacoustic textures, handcrafted costumes, lighting, scenography, and movement open inner landscapes. With sold-out shows across Greece and features in major productions, PAGAN’s work transcends music, sparking urgent contemporary dialogue. This artistic journey springs from the research and vision of composer and producer Stavros Tsumanis. PAGAN is not a band, it is a calling from the depths of memory and the unconscious, where myth, instinct, and the sacred unite the human spirit.
