Amsterdam-based Ghanaian trumpeter, composer and bandleader Berima Amo is a dynamic ambassador of West Africa’s rich musical heritage. For over a decade, he has been crafting a distinctive sound that fuses Ghanaian highlife, Afrobeat, traditional rhythms, jazz, soul and contemporary grooves, creating hypnotic melodies that transcend borders. His work spans five albums, four EPs, and multiple singles, and extends beyond the stage through his commitment to nurturing young talent via initiatives such as the Highlife Restoration Project and the founding of Ghana’s first big band in 30 years, the Osaberima Big Band. ‘Rhythms of Love’ is a heartfelt tribute to the sounds and icons that shaped Berima’s musical journey. Hypnotic grooves and soulful melodies explore love, unity, cultural pride, storytelling and the enduring power of music to connect people “one beat at a time.” His masterful trumpet playing and expressive vocals act as a guiding thread, carrying listeners through vibrant sonic landscapes where traditional African rhythms meet jazz harmonies, orchestral colours, and modern global influences. Drawing on collaborations that reach from big band jazz ensembles to institutions such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Dutch National Opera, Berima continues his mission to honour and reimagine African music for new generations. ‘Rhythms of Love’ stands as both a celebration of African musical legends and a testament to his vision: preserving cultural roots while promoting and preserving the cultural richness of African music for new generations worldwide.
