I used to like the 'occasional bit of Eddi Reader'. Then I discovered a number of albums I didn't know she'd made, with whole load of gems hidden away. She was doing a gig in a church not far from where we live - so we went. She turned out to be the best live entertainer I have seen. Her singing is immaculate, and is delivered with both humility and a rare passion. Her musicianship is of the highest quality, as is that of those who write for her and play alongside her - maestros all. She is also extremely, and unexpectedly, funny . .
