Moriz Rosenthal (1862-1946) He studied successively with Galloth, Karol Mikuli (a pupil of Chopin), Rafael Joseffy (a pupil of Tausig and Liszt) and Liszt. He had close ties with Anton Rubinstein and was admired by Brahms, Johann Strauss, Tchaikovsky, and Hugo Wolf. Though his technique was somewhat impaired by the time these recordings were made, we can still hear a great philosophical mind at work. Rosenthal plays with grandeur, elegance, limpid tonal beauty, and the most delicate dynamic shadings.
