The so called 'rock-opera' by some people, 'Saint Patriarch Evtimiy' is actually a conceptual album by the Bulgaria rock band 'EPIZOD' which represents a historical moment from the end of 14th century -- the conquering of Bulgaria by the Ottoman Empire for about 5 centuries. Tsar (emperor) Ivan Shishman, realizing he couldn't cope alone with the invasion of the Turks (leaded by sultan Bayazid 'The Flash'), make his way to north to ask for help by king Sigizmund of Hungary and another European Christian rulers. And so, the defense of the capital city of Tarnovo was leaded by no one who is general or even a soldier but by Saint patriarch Evtimiy of Tarnovo himself. In this album the patriotic line with the praising in songs of the Bulgarian heroes continues and in the terms of music there is a 'meeting' between heavy metal, Christian orthodox singing and Bulgarian folklore (in the persons of Daniela Velichkova -- vocal and the gadulka /rebec/ virtuoso player Rosen Genkov). This combination was highly recognized for its quality by BBC in 2007. In this album the line-up of 'EPIZOD' is: Emil Chendov (vocal), Simeon Hristov (bass guitar), Dragomir Draganov (guitar), Hristo Gyosharkov (drums) and Pavlin Bachvarov (keyboards).
