Seasoned yet renowned versatile music producers from Kenya, Kevin Provoke, Ambrose ‘Dunga’ Akwabi and Uganda’s digital technologies expert Robert Jakech, forming Umoja Sounds, are unveiling the release of their second Ep ‘Dance Like David’. In tune with their mantra Vibe, Collaborate and Reciprocate, the trio has succeeded in formulating what involves choosing artists whom they identify, vibe, and resonate with and recording with them while featuring some of them amongst themselves. The results were brilliant, the music diverse, and the reciprocation was mutual. A four-track project, ‘Dance Like David’ featuring amazing talents from East Africa; 1der JR and Kamanzii Rwego from Uganda, Marleen Xplastaz and Fredrick Mulla from Tanzania, and Mbithi from Kenya came about as a result of Umoja Sounds aiming for a more energetic and vibrant vibe that ups the tempo in contrast with their first release ‘Emotional Attachment’. The music is largely of an Amapianoesque feel and is a celebration of that art form’s continuing cross cultural influence and presence, expanding outwardly to the wider world, something Umoja Sounds opted to participate, share, contribute, and have fun in. Songs included in the Ep are the inspiring ‘Simanyi’ featuring Kamanzii Rwego, ‘Mabawa’ featuring Marleeen Xplastaz, ‘Kakana’ featuring Kamanzii Rwego and 1der JR and the pilot single to the Ep ‘Weekend’ which features Fredrick Mulla, 1der JR and Mbithi. The title of this ep came about as a result of the story inspired by the biblical King David, where he danced without a care! Dancing breathes life to existence and Umoja Sounds brings this energy and rhythmical vibrance within the music to set up a canvas for us to explore the ultimate potentialities of our limbs on the dance floor should the occasion arise. Within the music are the aesthetics of the moment clearly heard as they unleash a positively fresh yet deliberate groove, user-friendly prose, and memorable sing-along melodies. The pilot single ‘Weekend’, features Tanzania’s rhyme impresario Fredrick Mulla, Uganda’s wordsmith 1der JR and Kenyan hit making enthusiast Mbithi, who offer us a well balanced performance of this massive track as it gets the party going to a great start with its repetitive pulsating synthesizers with a slapping percussive baseline. ‘Weekend’ ultimately is a song for everyone regardless of their day-to-day situations, a recap of end of week activities that rotate mostly around dancing. Every end of the week marks the beginning of what we call night life, party mood, weddings, pre weddings, someone’s graduation ceremony; someone else’s occasion worthy of all that frenzy. Umoja Sounds invites all to share the good times by indulging in ‘Dance Like David’ tirelessly as the world deserves tons of it. With Umoja Sounds, Marleen Xplastaz, 1der JR, Fredrick Mulla, Kamanzii Rwego and Mbithi offer us an excellent combination of vibes and a meeting of the minds on this upbeat platter, the regional mission towards cohesion being paramount based on the universality of humanity. They all thrive in their very own lyrical and rhythmically remarkable cadences that are proof of the potential that exists within our diversity as a people.
