In the autumn of 2018, Psappha offered UK-based advanced students of composition and composers, who are at an early stage of their career, the opportunity to work with Psappha’s harpist (Lauren Scott) and to write a work for harp. The scheme took place between September 2018 and May 2019 with each composer working closely with Lauren to both develop the new works and to learn more about writing for the instruments. The culmination of the project was a day of filming in Psappha's rehearsal and performance venue St Michael's in Manchester, UK. All composers attended the day and were able to fine tune the performance before and during the filming. Thank you to our composers Carmel Smickersgill, Daniel Ehrlich, Joseph Howard, Grace-Evangeline Mason, David Nunn and Joss Smith. We hope you enjoy the performance of their works. Psappha’s ‘Composing for…’ programme is supported by: Arts Council England; Garfield Weston Foundation; Idlewild Trust; PRS Foundation Talent Development Partner scheme; Radcliffe Trust; and RVW Trust.
