These "Black Sabbath: ...as Covered by Earth" audio-vids are soundboard recordings of a show the band Earth did sometime back in the early 90s at a club in Hollywood or Van Nuys, CA (I honestly don't remember where it was). Earth was a band that got together in the early 90s to play nothing but Sabbath tunes. We would get together at Jim Jensen's garage in Whittier, CA -- party, and play a bunch of Sabbath songs that only us Sabbath fans dug. I believe it was at a place called The Rock, or The FM Station, or was it the Rude Dog? Man... I honestly don't remember -- I don't even know how we got that gig -- I just know the venue asked us to *show up for soundcheck* at an absurd hour of the day while we were all working... which was out of the question. We didn't take this "band" too serious -- so we always ended up soundchecking with the first song anyway (which you can hear in the beginning of one of these recordings...). I remember our drummer Sergio, would always encourage us to pre-game our gigs by smoking a few J's, taking a few tequila shots and pounding a few brews before showtime... this was our parking lot ritual; it was mandatory. I had a pretty damn good buzz by show time. Mind you, I can hold my liquor, but I'm an absolute lightweight to say the least -- I get sloppy. The other guys... well, they're Neanderthals, so all this party consumption was just Tuesday to them. Luckily --- intoxication be damned -- I had the wherewithal to hand the FOH engineer twenty bucks and a brand new 90-minute Sony Metal Master cassette, and asked him to record our set. He was cool enough to oblige! Fast forward about 15 years, Sergio had found the tape (which in all honesty was probably laying around in his truck somewhere), and turned it over to me so I can create a CD for him. Which brings us all here... I'm glad I preserved this recording --- the guys in this band were all fun to hang out with -- we were all knuckleheads, but we all had fun playing these Sabbath tunes... Oh man, I just remembered --- we got asked to play out in the desert (I believe Joshua Tree) at a generator party called the Scratch Fest... oh man... that's a story for another time. Cheers folks! Hope you dig the recordings.
