Note: The first video states that Miku was the first Vocaloid released by Crypton with an anime mascot, but Meiko and Kaito were actually released first, but didn't originally sell nearly as well at first, although the idea of representing voice banks with a character did still have some success at the time. Miku was the first Crypton Vocaloid and character for the VOCALOID2 program, which started the method of basing voicebanks on real voice samples recorded by a hired voice provider, and her release is when Vocaloid blew up. Vocaloid was the first commercially release vocal synthesis software, but there are many others, such as UTAU, CeVIO, SynthV, etc. There are also fanmade Vocaloid characters called fanloids and derivates of existing characters.
