Forest Music was written as a response to the intense feeling of urban isolation and the increasing disassociation from the environment that 21st Century life entails. It was created as an imagined journey into nature, away from the city and into the greenness of the forest. Perhaps, also, it’s an escape from the reality of day-to-day chaos. The album makes reference to the Japanese concept of shinrin-yoku, or forest bathing, an ancient practice which encourages therapeutic relaxation in a natural environment, and mindful appreciation of nature.
