This playlist features an intimate collection of Carla Bley compositions performed on solo piano, including one of her most beloved works, "Lawns." In tribute to Bley’s contribution to jazz, these recordings explore the wit, beauty, and harmonic depth of her compositions. From her beautiful ballads to the jagged, avant-garde energy of her early "free" pieces, this series captures the essence of the Bley songbook. Featured Performances: ‣ Lawns (Most Popular) ‣ Ida Lupino ‣ Sing Me Softly of the Blues ‣ Vashkar ‣ Syndrome ‣ Ictus About the Project: Arranged, performed, and recorded by Budo Saurus. My approach is to stay true to the original lead sheets while embracing the improvisational, "out there" spirit of the classic ECM era. If you enjoy solo jazz piano and the music of Carla Bley, please subscribe for more recordings and explorations. Many more to come!
