- Album concept An eight-track album, each inspired by a region of Algeria. Eight landscapes, eight memories, eight ways of connecting tradition with the sound of today. It’s a journey across the country through its voices, rhythms, and instruments, transformed by an electronic and experimental approach. Each piece is born from a specific tradition, built in the studio from field recordings, archival takes, and synthesis, to give new voice and texture to ancient forms through a livingsoniclanguage.Everytrackbeginswithasource a melody, arhythm, avoice collected, recorded,or reinterpreted, then reshaped into something new. The result is a sensory journey where heritage becomes a living material, sculpted through texture, pulse, and emotion. - Why the title “Aswat Jamila” Aswat Jamila literally means “beautiful sonorities” or “beautiful voices.” I chose it because it’s universal, easy to remember, and it perfectly reflects what Algeria carries when you truly listen to it. The title brings together human voices, the voices of instruments, and the voices of places. It expresses the beauty of a country that resonates. The album captures these timbres, transforms them through electronics, and delivers them in a living, contemporary language that crosses borders. - Concept of the cover The visual takes a real Algerian road sign, written in both Arabic and Latin scripts, with an arrow pointing forward intentionally. The road is my second studio. In taxis and on nationalhighways,Ilisten,Icollect,Itravel physically, mentally, and spiritually. That’s where I discover music. This road sign becomes an entrance gate. When you return to Algeria, you enter Aswat Jamila. The landscape on the horizon, theroughmetaltexture, theharshlight everything tells a story of movement. The sign doesn’t announce a city; it announces a sonic world. The idea is simple and strong: eight tracks like eight destinations, connected by one single journey. The album opens with Alla, a tribute to a great oud player from Béchar an intimate, soothing piece that carries the light of the desert. Tiziri draws on the Ahellil of Timimoun, a traditional music of the Gourara region, reimagined as a gentle, continuous trance. With Inqilab Zidane (ft. Walid Hakim), the Arab-Andalusian heritage rises through a community choir and evolves into more acid and dance-oriented electronic textures. Uffiy (ft. Celia Z) reworks a piece by Idir, linking it to the achewiq the women’s songs of Kabylia to create a bridge between ancestral memory and contemporary voices. Laswed Magrouni channels the power of the Chaoui tradition from the Aurès, guided by the gasba, the bendir, and collective vocals. Douviz Ghali, born from an encounter with a gasba player, captures the energy of western Algeria, blending popular rhythms with the pulse of raï. With Lersal (ft. El 3ou), a pioneer of electronic fusion in Algeria, popular codes collide with modern sound structures. Finally, Salo Ala Nbi revisits the meddahates of Oran women’s devotional chants closing the album on a spiritual, forward-looking note.
