They call him "The Paganini of the Middel East". They must be refering to his showmanship and his stage act. He has his own way of playing the instrument, his frequent pzzicatti, and his throwing the bow in mid-air and catching it either at the end or in the middel of the piece he is playing. Perhaps also because he is a virtuoso violonist and does not hesitate to demonstrate it. Born in Lebanon, I believe of Palestinian refugees. Correct me someone, if I am wrong! Thanks. He began as a child and has since then been playing in many arab countries and in Europe. He plays mainly classical arabic music, has also accompagnied certain stars, but not so often, as it seems he puts himself ostensibly in the front. Perhaps, I think, because deep inside, he is a modest, maybe a timid, person, after all. I am not particularly an admirer of stage acting, while playing an instrument, but being myself a failed violonist, and of a couple other instruments, well sort of, never made a serious effort to play or to learn properly, I am in awe of any one that can make a violin, sing, dance, cry, neigh, or that, through any performance, can put you in a dreamlike trance. Jihad Akl's playing very often is a demonstration of his technical prowess, to boost his own ego! But that is the priviledge of the talented, and some of them deserve all the respect due them. I think you would find him a very good acquaintance, and I hope you would enjoy this playlist as much as I like the sound of his violin!
