Anouar Brahem, from Tunisia, is one of my favourite oud/luth composers and performers. Faithful to the arabic maqam (arabic melodic mode), he blends andalusian music and/or jazz in his compositions. He plays mostly in trios or quartets. His music is immediate and one can only sit, close one's eyes and immerse oneself in another mystical world of one thousand and one nights, or in blues or in whatever mood you are disposed for.
