Thomas Kessler’s Nocturnes are a series of piano pieces recorded spontaneously over four winter nights in 2025/26. Unlike his fully orchestrated works, they embody the spirit of his live concerts – music that arises entirely from the moment. A calm serenity and a touch of melancholy characterise the overall mood. Kessler’s piano fantasies often need only a few notes to unfold their effect. In his own words: “On my musical journeys of discovery, the realms at the edge of the spectrum of perception have always been particularly close to my heart. My piano music is also dedicated to the mysterious emotional worlds between relaxation, focus and sleep. We come into the world with a fundamental need for rituals of calm and security – and it accompanies us throughout our lives.” Thomas Kessler discovered the emotional power of pianissimo at an early age. His melodies are unobtrusive and timelessly simple. The warm yet fragile timbre of his piano sound seems to embrace the soul. The pauses are just as significant as the notes themselves; a reverent silence always shimmers through the layers of his pastel-coloured soundscapes.
