"To prepare for the aural experience, that is Tha Hymphatic Thabs, put everything you ever knew and/or thought of hip-hop into a pretty pink box and ask your mom to keep it in a safe place for you. Then take a deep breath, hold your nose and plunge into his universal chaos. It's well worth it. The beats are unpredictable, the sound is industrial, his rhymes are compelling in a Roald Dahl/Clive Barker sort of way, and his performance staccato." - Theresa Owen - TONIGHT - The Star (Nov 14, 2007) The Hymphatic Thabs (Thabiso Mohapeloa) embodies the evolution of hip-hop music in South Africa. Thabs' journey into hip-hop began around 1994 when he was in junior high school, in Maseru, Lesotho. Growing up in the mountain kingdom, Hymphatic inherited the broken rhythmic patterns of the traditional oral poetry that surrounded him and developed a unique hip-hop style. The talented word-mangler and emcee later moved from Lesotho to Johannesburg where he was exposed to and influenced by other South African emcees, eventually growing to become one of the most influential contenders in the hip-hop scene. Through unique and cinematically gripping music videos, Hymphatic Thabs has taken the South African underground hip-hop scene to another dimension. Error Era , Thabs' first CD project, was independently produced and he did much of the promotion and marketing himself. It was to him a personal journey of discovery; a time of experimenting and learning from mistakes. His second release, which came out at the end of 2003, was ironically titled Perfect Times. Very experimental in style, this album takes an honest look at the state of society, reflecting anything but perfect times. His latest offering "The Age Of Horus" is no different in it's adamant social commentary spoken through meditative rhythms. What distinguishes The Age Of Horus from his other previous releases is that here, he also explores ancient mythologys, African folklores and what lessons from the past can teach us about tomorrow. It is an album not restricted to the rules of any genre, but challenges boundaries and creates a new texture to the sound of South African hip-hop. Using socially conscious rhymes with an experimental sound and comical presentation, Thabs gives a light feeling to the otherwise seriously deemed life that many South Africans are faced with. Since his introduction into the market, Tha Hymphatic Thabs has shared stages with many local and international performers like Robo The Technician, Gin-I Grindith, Witchcraft, Jonzi-D (UK), Issues (USA), Tumi (Tumi & The Volume), Proverb, Lesego Rampolokeng, Pitch Black Afro, 5th Floor, Dead Prez (USA), Lebo Mashile, ProKid, Wordsworth (USA), Bambaataa, Black Thought (The Roots), Mzwakhe Mbuli, Max Normal, Jabu Khanyile, Linton Kwesi Johnson (UK), Thandiswa Mazwai, The Last Poets and many more, proving his versatility and diversity as an eccentric and exciting hip-hop phenomenon
