With the advent of Muharram 2020, this playlist by Imran Datoo features a collection of noha in English and Urdu, honouring the sacrifice of Imam Hussain (a.s.) and his family in Karbala, Iraq. This collection pays tribute to the young lives lost during and following the tragedy of Karbala: the youthful Ali Akbar, who was known as the reflection of Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.), the infant Ali Asghar who was brutally martyred in the arms of his father, and young Bibi Sakina, who perished as a prisoner at the tender age of around four years. We hear of the heroism of Aun (a.s.) and Muhammad (a.s.) the sons of Bibi Zainab (s.a.) who were aged around 11 years, before they too lost their lives on the battlefield. As we recall the tragic events that occurred on the day of Ashura 1400 years ago, we are reminded that, alongside our grief, there remains an eternal miracle surrounding the lamentation of Imam Hussain (a.s.). We are honoured in our commemoration, and have been promised the prayers of Bibi Fatima (s.a.) for even a single tear that we shed in memory of her beloved household. Our azadari is a pathway towards God, and the remembrance of Imam Hussain (a.s.) is a means towards elevating our deeds for the pleasure of Allah. “Oh Hussain, in your grief we will reside.”
