This noha collection, recited in Urdu and Farsi, provides a soulful recollection of the tragic events of Karbala and Shaam. The recitations lament the pain borne by the Holy Household as they lost one after another of their family members: a young girl’s loss of her father; a father’s loss of his sons – one a young man, the other a 6 month old baby; and a sister’s loss of two valiant brothers who were the princes of the household. We are reminded of the earlier losses faced by the Ahlul Bayt, including the demise of Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.), and the martyrdom of Bibi Fatima (s.a.) and Imam Ali (a.s.). We mourn the irony of the Lion of Allah being weakened at the time of his death, as he reached for his beloved daughter and foresaw her heartbreaking future. “Zalzala sa tha zameen main, ro raha tha asmaan.” “The earth was trembling, the skies were crying.”
