The Edison High School Bands are directed by Charlie J. Mitchell and located in Fairfax County, Virginia. In addition to performances by the Concert and Symphonic Bands, a number of students performed pieces they previously performed at the VBODA District 10 Solo and Ensemble Festival. The band was thrilled be visited by John Zdechlik, the composer of "Concerto for French Horn and Orchestra," which the Symphonic Band played with his granddaughter, Katie Kolo, performing the horn solo. He wrote this piece in 1996 for his daughter Sarah (Katie's mother), who performed the horn solo in the first public performance of the piece at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, with Jim Smith conducting the UW Orchestra.
