Ballet Synopsis MYSTICAL SUITE — A Ballet in Nine Scenes Music by Andrew Gleibman Duration: 29 minutes This ballet follows the inner journey of an artist whose world is transformed through memory, love, and the surreal. A sequence of dreamlike scenes unfolds as he is drawn into a realm that blurs the boundary between reality and the fantastical. SCENE I — Overture: A Strange Elegy (4'42") As the curtain rises, a solitary artist wanders through the luminous streets of a beautiful city. The music suggests both nostalgia and quiet wonder. He is thoughtful, searching — not for something tangible, but for meaning hidden in the ordinary. SCENE II — An Unexpected Meeting (3'02") Among the passing faces, he suddenly recognizes a woman from his past — a former love. Time collapses in the instant. Their eyes meet, and the world shifts. SCENE III — An Invitation (2'12") Soon after, he receives a mysterious invitation — to a gathering unlike any other. A sense of enchantment stirs. The air thickens with possibility. SCENE IV — Sweet Dream (2'07") Alone again, he envisions the encounter to come. In a reverie tinted by desire and memory, he imagines their reunion — tender, bittersweet, and luminous. SCENE V — In the Park (2'39") Filled with anticipation, he strolls through a magnificent park. Nature is alive with color and motion; the music reflects his uplifted spirit as he draws nearer to the unknown. SCENE VI — Taste of Ambrosia (2'29") At the gathering, he is greeted not by people, but by divine figures — ethereal beings who offer him ambrosia, the fabled food of the gods. With each taste, his senses are heightened; he feels light, visionary — unbound. SCENE VII — Enchanted Forest (4'03": this scene is the central dramatic point of the ballet) Now transported to a surreal forest, he encounters creatures of all kinds — whimsical, grotesque, majestic, and terrifying. The choreography becomes more erratic, unpredictable, as the forest reveals its true, enchanted nature. SCENE VIII — Witches’ Sabbath (3'51") Amidst the trees, he is drawn into a wild ritual. Witches appear, cackling and seductive, their movements manic and precise. The chief witch commands the frenzy, summoning a climactic sabbath of chaos, shrieking laughter, and ecstatic dance. SCENE IX — Apotheosis: Flight with Snowflakes (3'31") As the sabbath dissolves, a great wind rises. The artist is lifted into the sky, ascending among radiant snowflakes that spin and shimmer like celestial dancers. In this final vision — part dream, part liberation — he transcends the earth, guided by beauty and the sublime. ================ When improvising this music, I was driven by subconscious images not related to any verbal, scenic or dance concepts. Later, when adjusting parts of the improvisation into a music form, I realized that this, actually, is a ballet suite. Today, with the help from AI for improving my English writing style, I came to the above synopsis. ================ Please listen to this music using good quality headphones.
