A collection of 78 rpm recordings by Bill Monroe from 1936 through 1951, including selections with the Monroe Brothers as well as his later work and recordings with his Blue Grass Boys. Known as the father of bluegrass, these sides trace the development of his distinctive mandolin style and the early foundations of the genre, from the close harmony duets of the Monroe Brothers era to the driving sound that defined bluegrass.
