The story of the tracks : 1️⃣ Track 1 : "Detroit Sound" My tribute to all Detroit Techno producers. Deep chords, Sh 101 bass line, a smooth structure. 2 - Track 2 : "Sweet Harmonies" First track of the album. Had to start with a good idea of what was supposed to follow. Melodies, harmonies, strings, warm synth, funky basslines & congas 🙂. 3 - Track 3 : "Emotional" Something I call an emotional club tune. Its fast, its clubby but its full of melodies. Chords, Sh 101 melodies, Pro One bass, DX 100, 909, congas... 4 - Track 4 : "Street Jazz Variations" That kind of drawers track, few steps & atmospheres to build a journey into melodies and funky rythms I like to do. I called it "Street Jazz Variations" as I wanted to stay humble and not pretend to make jazz, but simple jazz melodies to follow the chords & strings I composed. 5 - Track 5 : "Street Jazz Variations" Thats the minimal track of the album. Of course the star synth here is the Sh 101. I've always been a fan of Robert Hood since early 90's and he inspired me a lot. I've (nobody did anyway) never reached his skill and talent, but the most important for me was the pleasure to make it. I wanted to put a dark atmosphere to the track so some dark strings were needed. The story of the title of that track...Hmmm, its a private joke with a Rotterdam friend I can't tell, sorry... 🙂. 6 - Track 6 : "Street Jazz Variations" Softcause is one of the first track I recorded for the album. It is inspired by some works from Vangelis, Carl Craig, Kenny Larkin, Kraftwer and other pioneers. But, with my own angle of composing melodies. I really wanted to put the beats behind the mix to give the full power of melodies & harmonies. The bass line is here really simple, thats something I don't really like to do usually but sometimes a simple bass line give more space to the melodies and has just a purpose to give more power to harmonies. The sound of the strings from Roland VP330 is really cool here I think. Some chords done with the Roland JD 800 and exceptionally no Roland 101 🙂. 7 - Track 7 : "Little Angel" Little Angel is a really special track. When I recorded the album during 2001's summer, I was working a lot by night. I started that track after looking at my first daughter "Romane" fall asleep (she was 1). I was into a special inspiration about sweet & deep melodies, a bit like I would'n wake her up. I started by all the melodies & worked on beats on the next morning. I also did the mix live to keep a smooth structure. The bass is the 101, some strings from the JD 800, beats from the Drumtracks. Finaly thats a simple track but all the melodies fits really well and bring a cool atmosphere. 8 - Track 8 : "Tech Do Brasil" That track was recorded with my old friend & partner in crime Jean Vanesse GreenHouse in his studio (thats why the sound is so huge). It was originally supposed to come out on Dave Angel's Rotation records but finally I decided to put it on the album to bring a bit of Brazilian beats and flavor into the album's journey. It was a pleasure to record that track as it has a lot of positive vibes and energy. That super bass on "Tech Do Brasil" comes from the "Pro One" synth, one of my fav synth for bass line after the 101. Classic brazilian percussions on top, a synth stab off beat to bring more funk and you have a powerful dancefloor track in your hands. 9 - Track 9 : "Share My Soul" The last track I recorded for the album on the timeline of production. I worked on a good loop by combining Rhodes chords and a simple Sh 101 bass line (with some variations) as I wanted a more repetitive background but with an electric piano's solo (A simple, cheesy but cool sound from the DX100...). So, the recording was a bit different ; recording the electric piano solo first one the loop and after that, arrange the structure to follow the solo and put the best part of the solo upfront and add some breaks and effects too. 🔟 Track 10 : "Un air de Provence" The last track of the album. Once again, the idea was to make something deep and sweet. My inspiration was to create a track to reproduce the sun rising on French' Provence by a morning I've seen a quiet similar light into my countryside area in Belgium 🙂...So I used a shuffle programming of the 909, 808 & 101 (for the bass line). Adding chord stabs with the Matrix 1000 (another awesome synth if you have the remote). Some choir sounds from the VP 330 and some little insect sounds to remind the cicadas from french' Provence and there it is... 11 - Track 11 : "Time is Honey" A bonus track only for the vinyl version of the album. Classic Lig's chords stabs, funky 101, VP 330 strings and some melodic/soulful elements to give a deep atmosphere to the track even if this one can work on the dancefloor. So if you don't have the vinyl LP you maybe never heard of it. #fabricelig #souldesigner #walkingonalittlecloud #fcommunications #detroitsound #20years #paris #
