Jalal al-Din Muhammad Rumi, widely known simply as Rumi, was a 13th-century Persian Muslim scholar, theologian, and jurist who transformed into one of history’s greatest mystical poets. Born in 1207, his life was radically changed after meeting the wandering mystic Shams-i Tabrizi, an encounter that sparked an outpouring of ecstatic verses centered on divine love, the annihilation of the ego, and spiritual awakening. Today, his timeless masterpieces—including the Masnavi and the Divan-e Shams-e Tabrizi—transcend religious and cultural boundaries, making him one of the most widely read and celebrated poets globally.
