Moonlight Dancer is an album inspired by the breakbeats and basslines of the late 90s and early 00s that were omnipresent in those early PlayStation 1 and Nintendo 64 era games. It feels like the world has changed so much since then. Back then multiplayer meant sitting shoulder to shoulder on a couch in your friend's house playing split screen games. Most households still had dial up and when you did get online you found yourself in a digital jungle created and curated by other users. If you wanted to rent a movie you drove down to the nearest rental store and picked up a VHS or a DVD for the weekend! Streaming and algorithms weren't what they are today. The early 00s felt like the best of both worlds with messy socials and under-developed streaming without the endless feeds. Thinking back on that era feels a little like driving past an old boarded up video rental store. There's a beautiful sadness in seeing something so special fade and be replaced with something else. But maybe it's all just rose tinted glasses and nostalgia. I hope kids today will have the same feelings about the time when they grew up in a few years time.
