Without A Lion EP (For Marjan)

This EP was recorded entirely on felt piano at Richard J. Birkin's home studio. The muffled, sotto voce tone evokes an intense intimacy with the piano that I had never encountered before. There is an honesty – an earthiness to these recordings – every pedal change and finger press has been audibly captured. At times during the recording sessions, I asked myself: “What does the soul of a piano look like?” Perhaps I already knew, as I looked upon the motion of hammers, strings and felt. 2020 Bucks Music Group
