Mike Kaawa is one of the key figures in modern Hawaiian music. He's famous for his 12 string guitar stylings and he's been part of many landmark recordings over the years. He is a composer, arranger, singer, and band leader, as well as a master instrumentalist. His band, The Hawaiian Boy Crew, was adopted by Eddie Kamae as the final version of the legendary Sons of Hawai`i. And Mike has thrilled audiences across the US as part of the Force of Nature duo with the equally legendary Ledward Kaapana. One of my regular stops when we are in Hawai`i is Honey's at the Ko`olau Golf Course, where Mike and his Hawaiian Boy Crew present their weekly windward side extravaganza on Sunday afternoon. Aunties dance, guest artists play and sing, and Mike and the boys deliver a transcendent experience. This playlist includes videos from Honey's and other gigs along with a few that we have done when Mike and his wife were visiting us in Walnut Creek.
