''The Lost Album'' consists of tracks recorded in May 26-27, 1963 and January 12, 1964 at RCA Studio B, in Nashville, Tennessee. The initial sessions provided RCA with enough material to issue Elvis's fifth studio album of the 1960s, a likely successor to the preceding pair, ''Something For Everybody'' and ''Pot Luck''. That is, a rather modest collection of rockers, ballads and a lil' ol' country. There are some strong numbers, especially the ones that ended up on singles: "(You're The) Devil In Disguise," "Please Don't Drag That String Around," and "Witchcraft." The January session produced what many consider one of Elvis's finest moments as a ballad singer, "It Hurts Me'', which was, all too typically by then, relegated to the B-side of an abysmal soundtrack song as a summer single. ''The Lost Album'' collects them all in one place with fine sound and is a lot of fun, if of little significance.
