Pemulwuy! National Male Voice Festival is a national triennial event based in Brisbane, Queensland. It aims to encourage males throughout Australia to engage in singing at whatever level of experience they find themselves and to build networks between conductors and artists who work in this unique field. In 2014, the festival will took place from 10-13 July. History The festival takes its name from the aboriginal rainbow warrior Pemulwuy who was a member of the Bidjigal tribe. His name means 'man of the earth'. 'The legend of Pemulwuy is part of the belief system and oral history of the Aboriginal people of east coast Australia. It is also part of the history of all modern Australians.' (Eric Wilmot) It is also the title of the music written by Paul Jarman which tells of the legend of Pemulwuy! This stirring piece of music was performed by The Birralee Blokes in the national finals of the ABC Classic FM Choir of the year. Pemulwuy focuses artistically and socially on men and boys, offering participation for singers of all ages and backgrounds.
