I’ll go where the music takes me. Where rhythm makes me. That’s where my destiny is gonna be. The trouble with playlist culture - is that a thing? - is the algo’s demand a theme. Ok if thought goes into it - like making a mixtape for your latest crush in the 80’s - but does it? Then again, as alluded to in the opening lyrics, that’s not how it needs to be. It’s certainly not how DJing is supposed to be (not that this is DJing, I’m just drawing a comparison - let’s not go there). If you picture yourself on your bedroom floor with your record player, sifting through your albums randomly spread out on the carpet, or browsing through your iPod or even using the search bar on YouTube, you’re led by your ears, your instincts, your curiosity and your memories. But of course, you longer have to do that, you can outsource it to ‘The Ultimate 00’s Chillout Bangers For Cooking, Eating & Puking). But where’s the fun in that? All this is then, is a selection of tracks I’ve naturally been drawn to listen to today, for no other reason than they’re in my collection (I loved them enough to pay up for them not just rent-a-listen on Spotify) and I was drawn to them, one naturally leading to another today. There is no theme. No concept. It’s not background music. It’s just what I LISTENED and decided to share - today. But tomorrow is another day. Let’s see where that takes me - or you. Because I hope it might inspire you to do something similar or completely different. It’s up to you. And thats the point, right there. Go play. You can thank me later.
