During the Covid lockdown pianist Nancy Litten gave herself a new project; to memorize and record 'salon' pieces written between about 1850 and 1950, limiting them to one per composer, and dressing up suitably for the period. They include Victorian favourites such as Melody in F, and The Rustle of Spring; jazz staples such as Ain't Misbehavin' and Paragon Rag, light music such as Teddy Bears' Picnic and By the Sleepy Lagoon; and her own arrangements of instrumental or choral pieces such as Three Little Maids from School, and Massenet's Meditation. She is able to reach back further in time with arrangements such as Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring by Bach/Myra Hess. And more serious composers show their lighter side, with pieces by Debussy, Walton, Dvorak, Grieg, Mendelssohn, Ibert, Tchaikovsky etc. Take a look!
