Oxford has always had a vibrant folk music scene, and in the 1980s it was largely found in pubs with Irish landlords such as the Half Moon, the Bullingdon Arms, The Coach and Horses, the Radcliffe Arms and the Port Mahon. These tracks were recorded in the Plasterers' Arms, on the junction between St Clements and Marston Rd (sadly demolished a few years ago to make way for a student residence). It was run by Chris and Margaret Doyle, and for several years running they hosted a 24-hour sponsored music session and concert, organised by a bunch of local singers and musicians, to raise funds for a special needs school. Sponsors donated so much per song - no repeats allowed! The total reached well over 500, going all through the night.
