Alfred Cortot (1877-1962), is considered one of the most influential musicians of the early 20th century. A pianist who studied under a pupil of Chopin, his work with the composer's music is highly regarded, including his own authoritative editions of Chopin's scores. In collaboration with Pablo Casals, and Jacques Thibaud in the 1920s, he introduced chamber music of the 19th century to modern audiences, and was among the first to record the Brandenburg concerti of J.S. Bach.
