Beyond the Atlantic coast, our musical caravan now turns towards the immense horizons of the Sahel. Across Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger, ancient trade routes once carried salt, gold, stories and songs between the Sahara and the fertile lands farther south. Powerful kingdoms rose here, but history was preserved not only by rulers and chronicles. It also lived in the voices of griots, the strings of harps and lutes, the rhythm of hands and drums, and the memories passed from one generation to another. In this chapter, we travel through moonlit dunes, old caravan towns, desert encampments and vibrant communities where music remains a living bond between people, landscape and ancestry. Our journey begins in Mauritania, beneath the stars of the Adrar. Welcome to *Kingdoms of the Sahel*.
