A torchbearer of Karnataka’s classical heritage, Dr. Nagavalli Nagaraj stands as a revered figure in the world of Carnatic music. With a Ph.D. from Bangalore University for her seminal research on Mysore Vasudevacharya’s compositions, Dr. Nagaraj served as a senior faculty member in the Department of Performing Arts for over 35 years, mentoring generations of postgraduate students in both technical precision and artistic sensibility. Her accolades include the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award, Sangita Choodamani, Sangita Vidyavaridhi, Sangita Sudha Varshini, and Sangita Sharade, conferred by cultural and religious institutions in recognition of her contributions to music and scholarship. Internationally, she represented Karnataka as the State Artist for Amerika Kannada Koota Kootaagara (AKKA) at the Sammelana in Baltimore, USA, and continues to perform and lecture globally.
