Songs that tell a story, typically in a musical theatre style, but not drawn from a musical. Story Songs may be part of a song cycle, a standalone song, or sometimes from other established musical genres that tell a story. For applicants considering this category and music lovers exploring the genre, this playlist gathers Story Songs performances from the American Traditions Competition. Based in Savannah, Georgia, the American Traditions Vocal Collection celebrates and preserves all styles of classic American music. Through musical education, community events, concerts and our annual vocal competitions for regional high schoolers and professional vocalists, the ATC keeps classic genres of American music alive.
