The Gravis Ultrasound card for IBM PC provided a wavetable MIDI synthesizer and digitized sound playback to MS-DOS computers of the early 1990s. The driver package included several sets of patches which loaded to card RAM, allowing the user to customize instrument sounds or modify sample sets on a per-game basis. Also included in the package was PLAYMIDI.EXE, a simple MIDI player for the card, and a set of sample MIDI files to demonstrate its capabilities. For many users, this was the first time they would hear a computer playing "real" instruments (as opposed to the purely synthesized tones of the OPL-based AdLib / Sound Blaster series). This playlist is a capture of playback of each MIDI file using an emulated Gravis Ultrasound card under DOSBox SVN r4301, and the stock patches from 4.10 / 4.11 of the driver software. For tracks 1-14, the "MIDIDEMO.BAT" script controls playback. There are two additional MIDI files in the package, not referenced by MIDIDEMO.BAT, which have been rendered separately and uploaded here.
