The Gravis Ultrasound was an early wavetable synthesizer sound card for the IBM PC. On-board RAM could store up to 1024kb of samples, loaded from disk on demand before starting playback. Gravis shipped a set of "default" patches with their drivers - a complete General Midi implementation - and some supporting games would even include their own samples to achieve a custom sound. Musicians also used the custom patch feature to replace instruments with their own preferred samples. One of the most popular collections was Pro Patches Lite, a drop-in "upgrade" to more realistic or interesting instruments than the default GUS patches. The set even had multiple drum kits available, matching the Roland GS standard for percussion on MIDI channel 10. Thirteen sample MIDI files were included with the final full Pro Patches Lite distribution. This playlist contains recorded playback of all 13 tracks using PLAYMIDI.EXE with the new samples. PATMENU.EXE commands (not shown) were used to select the correct GS drum kit before each song. Recorded using DOSBox SVN r4301.
