This was the third time Coroner had stepped foot in the studio to record another batch of songs and that is very obvious. The song writing had reached full maturity by this point with all of the twists and turns from Punishment For Decadence except this time done with a little more taste and pacing. Lots of heavy breakdowns and some of Tommy's best lead work is found on here (Tunnel Of Pain). The lyrics here mark the beginning of the "cryptic" phase for Coroner. A lot more symbolism is used and disjointed phrases are used here but still retain some understanding. Mark expands on this style on later records, but I find he was the most tasteful on this record. This is my favourite Coroner record, next to Mental Vortex, and I hope that Coroner's next album will reflect this period rather than the "Grin" album. Remastering this record was definitely a learning experience. Having been one of the first times I approached doing a complete record, I made some mistakes. The original lacked a decent mid-range and had way too much low end. I balanced most tracks to the best of my ability and used compressors to fill in the holes. In some cases, I may have gone overboard on the compression which I can tell listening back to some of the tracks. This is also the hottest master I put out, with some tracks hitting -10db average. That's a mistake I won't make again. Aside from these troubles, a great final product was reached and I'm glad that this remaster has been getting so much attention. Enjoy!
