The intensity of the past year has ignited a new creative urgency, and what was going to be my next album has evolved into something profoundly different. So I once again take a leaf out of Nina Simone’s book. She believed it was an artist’s duty to reflect the times they found themselves in, and I’ve found it impossible not to write about some of the events we’ve all witnessed this last year. While one voice may not change the world, I believe in the collective power of art to spark conversation and connection during these times - being who I am makes it not possible to remain silent on these things which aggrieve me. These are songs for anyone who feels the weight of the world and the fire to speak out. It’s ok to give a fuck.
