Instrumental Dance Music from the cultural traditions of Newfoundland and Labrador. To hear more of Daniel or to learn to play this music, visit www.danielpayne.ca Included here are a pair of original tunes, Christmas at the Cabin & The Woodstove Reel, recorded for a project called Live From Sally's Cove, on which six musicians gathered in a cabin near the ocean and played around a single microphone for a weekend just before Christmas. Daniel came up with this jig and reel during the weekend to commemorate the time spent playing music around the campfire. Free Payne's tunes are named after a fiddler from Cow Head, on Newfoundland's Northern Peninsula. This is another track from Live From Sally's Cove and features the sound of some great step dancing by Stephanie Payne. Live From Sally's Cove can be downloaded at www.danielpayne.ca/shop My sister and I recorded Parson's Pond Jig at the Parson's Pond Club for an online concert. It's from the playing of Rufus Guinchard, a well known Newfoundland fiddle player who passed on many tunes from the repertoire of dance players around the Northern Peninsula of Newfoundland. Visit danielpayne.ca to see what concert is showing now! Newfoundland Set features paintings by Ontario painter Steve Fick, set to a track from Daniel's album, Chain, also available through danielpayne.ca/shop. Daniel animated the slideshow and set it to a track featuring a fiddle tune called The Meech Lake Breakdown, by Newfoundland fiddler Emile Benoit. There's more of Emile's music in Jigs On A Plane! featuring the cast of a theatre show Emile's Dream, playing music, as Emile had in his lifetime, in a flying plane. It was a fun moment in our tour of Newfoundland and Labrador. Another album available at Daniel's website is Shed No Tears, which features Aaron Collis and Matthew Byrne of the Dardanelles, several years before they joined that group. Shed No Tears was recorded over one night in Gander and released for a tour of the island. These tunes are from Cow Head and Boyd's Cove. For more of this music, visit www.danielpayne.ca!
