As a piano teacher and performer, I know through experience that one is well prepared and has reached a major milestone if one can play the piece perfectly from beginning to end at around half speed. Personally, I enjoy practicing slowly (progressively from about 1/2 speed to around 2/3 to 3/4 speed, then finally, at full speed) and it is my observation that too many pianists are unable to play slowly because they were never taught to and because our piano culture seems to be primarily obsessed with speed for speed's sake only. Ultimately, one should be able to play at around half speed memorized as well as with the music. If one can do this, then one truly knows the piece inside and out. These videos aim at helping pianists play famous masterpieces of the piano literature slowly and securely so that they sparkle when eventually played at faster tempos.
