“Quench your thirst for sweet cultural music” SWANK is a music challenge that encourages the production of creative, catchy and culturally relevant music in St Kitts and Nevis. COMPETITION GUIDELINES The music considered in this competition must speak to the cultural heritage or living heritage of St Kitts and Nevis. The piece may be witty, informative, celebrative, reflective, nostalgic, prideful, uplifting or any combination of these but ultimately undeniably Kittitian/Nevisian in its context, composition, and execution. The content of eligible songs must be tasteful and appropriate for persons of all ages and backgrounds and can be played comfortably at most events. There should be no lude, inappropriate, derogatory or violent language contained within the song. Music must be relatively clean, however tasteful double entendre can be acceptable. Songs may be between 2.5 and 4.5 minutes in length. All music genres are welcome. Pieces that do not comply with this would not be eligible to compete. PRIZES Best lyrical composition: This award recognizes the song that demonstrates the most creative and potent arrangement of elements that are relevant to the cultural heritage of St Kitts and Nevis. Lyrics should paint an immersive picture that captures the attention of the listeners, tickles their senses and inspires a desire to live and or relive the Kittitian and Nevisian experience. Key indicators: Highlights cultural stories, figures/personalities, traditions, folklore, customs, and practices. Effective flow of topics, themes and or ideas. Effective use of local dialect. Best musical arrangement/ instrumental/ riddim This award recognizes the song that has the most creative and captivating musical arrangement that includes or is inspired by traditional music and or culturally relevant rhythms, beats and sounds. Best Song / People’s Choice This award recognizes the song that generates the most interest, appeal and public votes via social media. This recognizes the people's choice. PRIZES Best lyrical composition: $2,500. Decided by a team of three unaffiliated judges. Best Riddim: $2,500. Decided by a team of three unaffiliated judges. Best/ People’s Choice: $5,000. Decided by social media likes and votes by set November 27th. Eligibility In order to be eligible to compete in this challenge, entrants must create songs that are: Original compositions created, produced and performed by citizens and or residents of St Kitts and Nevis of no less than two continuous years. Produces no earlier than January 1st of 2024. Clean and clear of profanity, vulgarity or any other offensive content. Formally registered for this challenge by the stated registration deadline and include the written lyrics, writer(s) signer(s) and producer(s) names. Between 2.5 and 4.5 minutes in length. Of any musical genre.
