Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan form a vast cultural crossroads where Persian, Turkic, Mongol, South Asian and Islamic influences have met over many centuries. Across their steppes, deserts and mountain passes, the historic Silk Road carried not only silk and spices, but also languages, beliefs, stories, instruments and melodies. This collection travels through those seven lands in search of traditional poetry and song. Each piece has its own language and cultural identity, yet together they evoke a world shaped by migration, longing, hospitality, hardship and the continuous exchange of human imagination.
