José Lidón (1748-1827) is a spanish composer of the classical and preromantic period. He has worked at the court of Spain, and he mastered the various styles of his time, the modern galant and classical styles, as well as the ancient style. His Obra Principal Orgánica is a piece in the ancient style with Intentos (spanish equivalent of a fugue) where he explores all the possible keys in the circle of fifths. His very dense use of dissonances is typical of the late classical style, and this piece is even a foretaste for atonality which will developp one century later.
