In 2005, after the worldwide success of The Calling, Alex Band and his bandmate Aaron Kamin decided to step back from the band’s full-time activity. With millions of albums sold and the single “Wherever You Will Go” cemented as a modern rock classic, the hiatus allowed Alex to explore his voice as a solo artist. By late 2006 into 2007, Alex began writing and recording material for his solo career. He signed with Geffen Records and recorded an album, which was originally slated for release around 2007. However, his solo rollout encountered delays, attributed to industry restructuring and difficulties with the label, which caused the full album to be pushed back. In 2008, Alex took a key step toward independence: he parted ways with Geffen and founded his own label, AMB Records, reclaiming control of his masters and the direction of his solo project. That same year he released a five-song self-titled EP, offering a first taste of his solo sound as a bridge between his band era and the forthcoming full-length album. Throughout the 2006-2009 period, Alex performed live in support of his emerging solo identity, engaging with smaller venues, acoustic sets, and charity appearances while refining his songwriting. Though the full album would not arrive until 2010, this era built the foundation for it — marking his transformation from band frontman to solo artist, shaping the sonic and personal evolution that would culminate in his debut solo album.
