Kelly Groucutt's solo debut was marred by several production hiccups, including a costly single sleeve from pop art legend Roy Lichtenstein, as well as a disasterous test run from CBS' newest "Discomputer" mixer. At release, the album was praised for its writing and performance, but panned for its audio quality, thanks to the untested mixer. For its 1983 stateside release, Vlado "The Impaler" Meller tried his hand at the album. While infamous in audiophile communities for seeming to butcher all he touches, here, Meller ultimately helped to salvage the mess of a mix. We have recorded a copy of Kelly '83 for preservation, and to show that once you peel away the original version's sound issues, underneath is a shining gem of the ELO extended family, worth far more than 25%.
