In 1996 I got a job at Video Update, where I could rent up to 6 VHS tapes a night. I amassed an incredible collection of ultimately useless plastic garbage in the form of various types of cinema. I also started attending film school at Minneapolis Community and Technical College. My friend Matt Thompson, who I met at the video rental job, introduced me to the arthouse film scene. Eventually we moved in together, our shared love of Cinema, Tom Collins cocktails, and Pavement fueling us through our early 20’s. Things were looking up.
