Fats' first session and what a start. "The Fat Man" became a million selling record in 1950, his first (with 21 to go). The session starts with "Detroit City Blues" a bluesy mournful ballad, with "big-band-ish" arrangements and touchy piano-work. "The Fat Man" is an up-tempo junkers blues (adopted from "Junkers Blues" by Champion Jack Dupree). As far as I'm concerned the first Rock 'n Roll record. Great piano work and the intro is legendary. "Hide Away Blues" is a bluesy number about The Hideaway Club in Fats' neighbourhood the Ninth Ward. "She's My Baby" is an up-tempo jump tune wich boogie's and swings at his best.
